While working on nonfiction standards, students will use "Chew on This," to not only learn about text structure and central idea, but also nutrition. Students will read this book in class as well as at home in hopes that it will spark conversation and create learning opportunities simultaneously. My students have no idea what they put into their bodies. We will use this book to dive deeper into how food affects their body. They will learn about how food is made. We have already started to read this book and many students have already started to look for extra information about fast food restaurants on their own. It is sparking their interest and creativity.
