The kitchen is often referred to as the heart of the home. It is the place where everyone comes together to talk and catch up with one another. A classroom doesn't have a kitchen but there is a place that has the same feel...the carpet at the front of the room. This is the place where we begin our day together. We share news from our lives, preview our day and enjoy a story together. Throughout the day we gather together for reading, writing and math lessons, to listen to more stories and talk with one another about our learning and our thinking. It is the place where we solve problems together. This gathering place, this special carpet, is the place where we can all come together as a community of learners!
