Our school is just south of Milwaukee, and the community is affected by poverty, mental health and addiction issues. I teach 8th grade. I see approximately 125 students every day who are struggling with growing up. My students tend to be very reluctant learners. Some students have very little support outside of the school day. As a result, I am hoping to teach lessons around mindset. You can have better than what you have now, but you have to work for it. In some ways, the students think their lives will be similar to their parents' lives, and have stopped trying to succeed at school.
