My students love to play! When competing a math graph titled "Favorite Game" in class my students choose items to vote for such as "Soccer", "Football", "Volleyball", and "Video Games". I knew that most of my students were tech savvy and loved computers, iPads, and video games! I was shocked when 75% of my students choose video games! Shocked about how little our students get out and get active a coworker and I decided to go out side and play with them during recess. I was shocked to see what little they had to choose from, they had two four square balls, one soccer ball and one football to choose from. The rest of the students were just standing around talking. I decided to play basketball, which was basically just standing around while two or three kids were passing the ball to each other. This got me really interested in what we could do to figure out this situation. I asked my students what we could do to get more students outside and playing during recess and PE. My students came up with a great solution. They want to have more four square courts painted on the ground, and they want to purchase twelve balls for kick ball, and four square. They want to purchase 12 footballs, 12 basketballs, and 12 soccer balls. They also want to purchase other games they were able to play with outside such as giant checkers games, and twister games. Please help our kids get out and be active!
