Learning can occur at so many levels for elementary school-age children. At our school, we gather data from many sources to make sure our scholars are on track in becoming college and career ready. One piece of data which caught our eye over recent years is that feelings of social isolation as report by scholars on our annual Bullying Prevention Questionnaire have been increasing. We found this trend alarming as we know that children learn better in an environment in which they are happy and have a sense of belonging. As a result of this trend, we would like to have a Jump Rope Club at our school in an effort to create an environment where scholars can build friendships, find success in a school-related activity, and develop character and leadership skills. The supplies requested for this project will be used for this club which will be offered to 3rd - 5th graders at no charge to families and will meet weekly from January to May. Scholars will work on developing physical skills and learn speed and double-dutch jump roping. Character education will be a major focus as scholars learn about respect, responsibility, cooperation, perseverance, and kindness. One of our goals will be to develop a high level of skill so that we can perform at other schools and community events to showcase our scholars' talent.
