I work in a Title 1 school where families are not able to buy all of the school supplies needed for the year. My families often have enough for food, transportation, and clothing but not for extra notebooks or paper. The families truly do care about their children and want the best for them. The administrative team hold the expectations for students high just as the more affluent schools in the area do for their students. The school does a wonderful job meeting the students needs and trying to give teachers all of the necessary resources. However, sometimes the budget does not allow for extra materials that are needed in the classroom. I wouldn't have to worry about searching throughout the school for leveled readers or about borrowing books from other teachers if my classroom had its own set.
