Many of my students are ENL and all are inner city youth who do not have the experiences many of us have had, and they struggle putting words to images. Having an iPad in my art room will allow me to help one on one, those struggling students with visual cues to create art! I can pull up an example of a pumpkin, or draw it on the iPad showing them exactly what we are talking about as they don't understand the verbal reference to the word pumpkin. This one-on-one, at your seat help, will allow them to not feel singled out for not having the background knowledge others have. For other students, I can draw on the iPad an example rather than on their work, or waste drawing paper. I have a whiteboard to draw examples on but, it has a countertop in front of it, so I have to sit on the counter to draw examples. Our school as a whole are low income and it is reflected in my classroom resources and supplies, or lack thereof!
