Middle school is such a difficult time for most students. I teach 6th graders English Language Arts. Being in middle school is so hard! They haven't had the opportunity to feel like they "fit in" with their peers. They're starting to realize what makes them different from one another, and I want them to embrace their differences as what makes them unique instead of trying to hide them. We work together at a Title One school to be as academically successful as possible. I say "together," because without the students engaging, it doesn't matter what I'm trying to teach them. My students are going through those middle school, teenager years, that most people look back at with pain and anguish. I'm hoping to give them an escape from the worlds they live in at home and inspire them through the literature we read.
