Here in the Structured Teaching we strive to provide the students with an environment where they can learn and grow successfully. We all have times when we could use a moment to find our calm and having a sensory room for our students to turn to when in need is just the thing we need! We have two open rooms ready for new tools and furniture to create a calming space for the students when they need it the most! The peanut balls will provide a safe place for students to wiggle and bounce as they are sitting. They chewlery is used for the students that have oral sensory needs. The rope lights will create a soothing light in the sensory rooms. Being able to hang them high enough to keep the students safe will allow us to turn off the bright florescent lights and have a dimmer lighting. Train sets are very popular with the students in this classroom, adding a set of tracks and train cars to the rooms will allow more students to play together which opens up the chances of individuals learning to play together and share. I would love to have magnetic dry erase boards with magnetic letters in each room to help the students focus on something simple and fun to do. Learning simple things like letters and numbers can happen at anytime. The light covers are another way to defuse some of the bright lights with in the classroom itself as well as the two rooms that will be used as the sensory rooms. The brushes are used to help calm students down by brushing the backs of their hands or their arms. The weighted blanket provides safety, pressure, and warmth for students when they need it the most.
