My students have hands-on activity free time after working on academics all day and they look forward to this time. Using the items such as Magna Tiles, Crystal Climbers and Log Builders. My students will be able to cooperation and socialize with their peers. These items asked for will allow for problem solving and thinking creatively. The added bonus will be aiding in improving their fine motor skills. What is special about our "hands-on" time is that the students are learning to socialize and problem solve on their own with minimal teacher interaction. We have a few Lego blocks in our classroom and the first time my non verbal student, who is from Ghana and has never seen them before, played with them, he started to make utterances. I can just imagine the possibilities that having more manipulatives in the classroom will do!
