My middle school students have a very hard time understanding the evidence for evolution because we rely almost entirely on pictures. Providing my students with hands on models, experiments, and microscope slides will help to make the evidence more concrete and understandable for them. I'm excited about using hands on experiments for students to witness evidence for evolution. Students usually think of evolution as having happened in the past and being finished, but these experiments will demonstrate that evolution is a never-ending process that includes all life on Earth. I plan to use the hominid skulls as part of a lab rotation where I previously had students measure and examine line drawings of skulls. This will make a big difference for my students because they will be able to physically manipulate the skull models in order to see the similarities between the different species.
