Flexible seating allows students to be a part of their learning and make choices for themselves. When working on independent and group assignments, students can choose a space in the classroom that allows them to focus on their task. Currently, students only have a choice of sitting at a different table group, on the floor with a pillow or under the desks using clipboards.
Students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive when they are given a choice in their seating assignments. They almost always make good choices, and know that the opportunities can be taken away if they are misused, therefore my students more engaged in their work.
The 2 Bean Bags, Meditation Pillows, and Balance Balls that I have selected will provide my students more seating options in addition to the supplied classroom chairs. The Parson's Desk and Coffee Table will provide higher and lower options for desktops. The stools will allow students to sit at desk/higher tables but will still allow some movement. The comfy floor seats and the beanbag chair will allow for alternative floor seating options. They can be moved to any location in the classroom. The rug will make lying on the floor easier for those who prefer that option. The tables will provide alternative height options for students to stand or sit on the floor.
I've seen how giving choices can positively affect my students work and hope that the added choices will only grow their success.
