My students are goofy, giggly, and geared up to learn. I teach literacy and math to 20 bright-eyed learners who come to school each day anxious to learn. My students all classify as low-income, but that does not stop them from being curious busybodies! Each day my students bring the vibrancy of their cultures and their homes (and sometimes their tamales) to share with me at school. Despite language and cultural differences, my students have already gained so much this year in reading and math! Our school is set in an urban area in a low-income neighborhood. We are a Title I public school that aims to provide rigorous opportunity and expectations to our students. Excellence is an expectation, not a hope.
