A variety of seats will allow my students to choose the type of seating that will best meet their physical needs. By choosing different seats throughout the day, they will also build social skills as they interact with more members of their classroom community. Students will have a vested interest in the seating when they are hands-on in the conversion of the crates into cushioned seating. Research has proven that alternative seating increases student focus during learning. They can increase core strength, posture, and balance with seats that allow them to wiggle about to release extra energy or anxiety. Thus, alternative choice seating in our classroom will improve student concentration, behavior, and academics. My students will be totally excited with the variety of seating options this project will offer them! Respect of environment is a core Montessori value my students understand, so they will take wonderful care of your gift of new seating.
