Having a tablet to use in the classroom will bring books alive for my students! Each of my students have been blessed with an account through a non-profit organization that offers them access to thousands of audio books with voicetext. The books are human-read and the text and illustrations are included so they can follow along with highlighted text as they listen. They can access these books at home with a phone, tablet or computer, but they do not have access to these devices in their own classrooms. Often my students read books that are far below their interest level because of difficulty decoding words. These audio books level the playing field for these students, so they can access books on their interest levels, not on their reading levels. Listening to fluent reading builds reading fluency with struggling readers, and listening to expressive reading helps them increase their ability to read with expression. I bought six of these tablets to use in my pull-out classroom last year, and all of my 1st through 4th grade students know how to log on to the program, choose books, download, and navigate within the books independently. All we need now is enough tablets for them to check out for use in their classrooms. Please help my students grow their love for reading by funding my project!
