As a 7th-grade advanced math teacher, a typical day in my classroom involves inspiring students in making the connection between math and real life. On a typical day, my students study pre-algebra, solve word problems and engage in mathematical discussions. When they come to my afternoon class they apply what they learned in the morning class in the form of fun projects. My philosophy of education is that students of all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds will build a strong foundation in mathematics through a rigorous and relevant curriculum that challenges and inspires them toward success. My students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, which may seem like an obstacle, but they continue to succeed and work hard to achieve their goals. I enjoy observing the confidence my students feel as they successfully apply math across all subjects.
