Consistency is key in all classes, but especially in music. A classroom should be inviting new world to explore, but should have a place of gathering. Where most classes need desks and chairs, the music classroom has a little more freedom, and a beautiful floor covering can be that starting point. This music carpet gives students a chance to surround the blank staff, which will symbolize their open minds, eagerly awaiting their chance to participate in their daily lesson. A music carpet is inviting place to start the lesson and allows the students to physically touch the language of music by demonstrating a basic knowledge of pitch reading. It allows for a common focal point and a life-sized place to explore music notation, composition, and understandings of pitch and rhythm. All grade levels can appreciate the carpet as a visual and tactile reminder of basic music reading, and it creates a warm addition to a cold, tiled floor.
