My students are the underdogs that have experienced poor coaches up to this point. They are the students that no one desires to teach, tries to teach, or cares to teach. They are the ones that are given up on instantly and are thrown out there for the world to get and not be nice to. They are coming with little success in the dreaded math class. They have just been pushed along and never really taught outside of the box or created authentic relationships with others. They are not engaged in learning, included in their learning, or interested in things that do not apply to them. This lack of teaching and the numerous worksheets in which students self teach opens the door for behavior problems. Yet, these students are simple...if you teach them, they will learn! The entire school is on free lunch and have financial, family and educational struggles. The students are thirsty for success and lasting relationships.
