My students attend one of many underachieving public schools in Washington, DC, ironically within sight of our nation's Capitol Building. Very few students' homes have computers, unfairly limiting my kids' access to the knowledge and resources of the Internet. Without WORKING computers in their classroom, virtually no opportunity exists for these children to develop computer and contemporary research skills. One of my greatest frustrations is my awareness of so many educational computer applications which could help me target the individual needs of my third graders. This technology and educational tools are impossibilities for our classroom as educational software requires working computers. My students, all of whom receive free breakfast and free lunch, deserve much better educational tools!
