Many, if not most, young adult books are written and geared toward girls. My goal with this project is to promote reading to boys. In my years as an elementary teacher and now a high school teacher, boys have different reading preferences than girls. Girls generally like to get lost in a story whereas boys like to read about history, true stories, and want to learn something when they read. I work in a small school with a small, outdated library. Through this project, I will be giving the freshman through senior boys in my classroom opportunities to become readers by reading books they're actually interested in. The goal of an English teacher should always be about more than just "this year." I want to make my students life long readers who love books in a digital world.
