"Fair isn't everyone getting the same - fair is everyone getting what they need to be successful." Not everyone learns the same way - there's Myers-Briggs, multiple intelligences tests and such to prove it! And giving a students more of a choice in their learning will get them more involved and keep them engaged. Hence why I wanted a variety of flexible seating options so not all students have to be in a traditional seat/desk scenario all day. There will be moments where students need to be at their desk as a home base, but most of the learning time will focus on their flexible seating, such as guided reading centers, the math block, buddy reading, etc. After all flexible seating options are introduced, students will get their choice at the beginning of the day as to which seating option they would like for the day. They know that it's their responsibility to continue learning in that spot and they may not take advantage of it. Tables in my classroom are lowered to use pillows, kneel pads; and raised for wobbly stools, yoga balls, and even a standing option if that's what the student prefers. "You may sit anywhere in the room as long as you are safe, responsible and respectful."
