Children take great pleasure in listening to stories. Hearing a book read on tape will provide my students with the opportunity to hear their favorite books and provide important skills that will foster their love of reading. The equipment and books that I chose will be used as a part of our Daily 5 rotation each day and our Center time each day. The individual CD players and the individual stories will allow students some independence that kindergartens so eagerly want. Our listening center will be a Quiet place that will provide exposure to a variety of stories (genres), build listening skills, help build sight vocabulary, help develop critical comprehension skills, and foster independence. Our classroom listening center will allow children to choose the books they listen to and in return keep them engaged, on task and most importantly help build listening skills that is important to school success.
