With these supplies, you will supply students from Baton Rouge with the materials they need to maintain their writing portfolios and give them the stability of RESOURCES as they go about their research for their participatory research projects. We will be researching issues such as poverty, racism, environmentalism, sexism, and education inequality in our community and then writing 5 and 6-page research/reflection papers about our experiences. With so many of my students dealing with displacement issues from the flood and the aftermath of watching their city struggle after so many tragedies, I hope to provide a joyful, compassionate classroom environment in which they need not worry about things like whether or not they will have a pencil or where they can keep the rough drafts of their papers.
My students are brave, resilient souls that deserve the opportunity to explore the relationship between their education and their community, and these supplies will help my students focus on their research and their academic goals.
