We will read "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime" for our modern piece of British Literature. This novel is narrated by a person with autism. As we read, we will be doing lessons on person-first language and service-learning projects with our special education department like, but not limited to, being buddies for a day with preschool children diagnosed with autism. We will work up to an event like a Special Olympics or Night to Shine (Special Olympics Prom). At the end of the novel, we will also practice looking at experiences through the perspective of family members of people with special needs.
