I try to keep the classroom as well stocked as I can, with all the necessary supplies, to teach my students the importance of organization and preparedness. In a school with an especially high population of ELL students, I find myself writing on the board daily, which means I go through dry erase markers constantly. I tend to use colored markers a lot because they help students color coordinate notes and highlight important vocabulary for my ELL students. Writing the words on construction paper to post up and glue into their note books is also a great help. But of course we need tape and glue in order secure the words on the wall and notebooks. I also use color pens and allow the students, especially ELL and SPED students, to use the color pens to organize their notes, so I find myself needing replacing pens that dry out or walk away. I know that if I send out a donations list home, many supplies will be delivered without question, but I wonder what they have not purchased in order to do so. And what can I say about needing and using pencils, but that they are the foundation of a classroom. We use pencils in math class everyday and the worst part of that is not having a sharpener in the classroom, which means students need to go to the office when there are no more sharpened ones. And finally keeping a room clean is important so some cleaning wipes would make it so much easier. And tissues keep student noses from making that sniffle sound that can be so distracting while trying to take a test. There is so much more needed to make a classroom function, but this little bit will be such a great help.
