Street school is an alternative/therapeutic program that works with students that have dropped out or are on the verge of dropping out of a traditional school setting. Through a focus on building positive relationships, we help at risk students learn the social, emotional, college, and workforce skills that will prepare them for life after high school. In my classroom, I like to create a space where students feel safe, calm, and comfortable. In this space, I hope they'll feel at ease as they engage with new texts, their peers, and embrace learning. Since learning needs vary among students, the tools within my classroom vary as well. I like to create a classroom with different types of seating so students have flexibility as they engage in learning. I keep my lights dim and often have soft music playing in the background. Projects vary in supply use from posters and markers to chromebooks.
