I have been blessed to teach at a small school in Tennessee. Our students live in a rural area. I will have an average of 25-30 students in each class. This project is for 5th graders. At this age, it is essential that they develop a love for reading. . 62-64% of our students are free/reduced lunch. Our students are from areas where they must drive a minimum of 13 miles to reach a library. These children have a limited exposure to books/texts of any kind. Few of our children have reading as a regular part of their daily experience outside of school. With limited travel outside of their community, reading gives them a way to "visit" other places and also incorporates history and science.
