More experiences mean additional practice in applying learned language in a natural environment. Cooking is an amazing way to let all students be involved as a group to build language and includes reinforcement of getting to enjoy eating what they've worked together to make. Each cooking lesson can include language skills about the food, kitchen supplies, techniques used, safety in the kitchen, and healthy eating habits. Additionally, students can practice peer interaction through working together, requesting items, asking for help, and enjoying an activity as a team. Occupational therapy skills can also be practiced including opening containers, stirring, pouring, washing hands, and eating with utensils. Your donation would give us a refrigerator, perfectly fit to our classroom, to store all of the items needed for these cooking lessons. We try to keep lessons healthy which requires fresh ingredients that need to be stored in a refrigerator. Cooking lessons can help students learn these important life skills that will be utilized throughout their entire lives and help them be successful. Language, interaction with peers, skills in the kitchen, and team work are essential in each of their lives. The more they experience, the more they can learn!
