My special education students need support attending to instruction and accessing the curriculum. Maintaining attention to instruction can be especially challenging for my diverse group of learners. Research has shown that alternative seating for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder or similar disorders has a positive affect on classroom behavior, improves core strength required for fine motor activities such as handwriting, and increases attention to instruction. Therapy balls and chairs, like the items my class is requesting, have helped educators "facilitate engagement and in-seat behavior, and create opportunities to provide effective instruction." By funding this project, you will help an inspiring and amazing group of students increase their focus and participating in the classroom curriculum.
