I am currently teaching a Special Education class at Third Ward Elementary School. My students have various disabilities and range in grades K - 5. I enjoy working with these students because they are eager to be successful and learn real life skills. They strive to be happy and work hard in order to achieve success. Sadly many people write these students off but they want to learn, they want to be able to go to the store and buy things, read a book, and learn how to use technology. Their parents are passionate about their success as well. They want to see their child find their place in this world and these kids deserve that place. Each time one of them is successful the excitement on their faces outweighs any stress that comes with this position. This class allows me to see how important learning is, how important praise & compassion are when a student is struggling, & I believe in the power of yet.
