Textbooks tend to be a bit... dry, boring, repetitive, and uninteresting. This is especially true for history textbooks... which makes it tough for students to read let alone engage (think about) what they're reading! Adding fun and humorous books to the classroom (like King George - What Was His Problem? by Steve Sheinkin) can make a class more interesting. How? King George - What Was His Problem is written on my students' level, quotes primary sources, and honestly lays out the awesome, the controversial, and the hilarious; it makes history come alive! Where we've come from matters. Why things are the way they are matters. So much of our society is rooted in this period of time. Understanding the Revolution is fundamental and essential!
