My sixth grade students are a brilliant bunch with great potential and an enthusiasm for learning. I work at an elementary in the heart of South Central Los Angeles. My students never fail to astound me in their perseverance, resilience and love of discovery despite their often bleak surroundings. I want to provide them with a self directed technology center that presents them with a way to expand their view of the world that surrounds them through their own discovery, not just what I tell them. They should be able to research what we talk about both from our science, ancient history, and language arts texts. They can practice researching and share with each other through discussions and debate on current world affairs. They also need to practice the essential skills of typing their reports and projects for language arts. By providing a small technology center for my students to share, you will help sharpen the skills they will need to become the pioneers I know they can be.
