Our children today, grow up in a society full of ever-changing technology. They interact with technology on a daily basis whether it be at home and/or at school. Technology is everywhere we go! In order for my students to stay up-to-date with advancements in technology, I am hoping for an iPad for my classroom, in addition to an Osmo starter set. This iPad will be used during all curriculum content areas, daily by the students in my class. Students will be able to create STEM activities on the iPad, read on the iPad, take pictures to add to their Class Dojo "My Story", as well as begin to enter the world of coding with the Osmo set. With an iPad in the classroom, technology opportunities are endless! My students eagerly wait for their technology day, which at this point is limited to 4 classroom desktop computers, which they enthusiastically access 1-2 times per week. Having an iPad for students to use both independently, and cooperatively, readily puts the technology at the students' fingertips. The iPad will also decrease their wait time, and allow for more flexible work time, not just structured to a schedule. Working wirelessly on school-ready WIFI, the students can remotely access any available apps throughout the school day. Whether in the classrooms, the hallway, or outside on the playground, students can actively engage with technology. Coding, a new concept to my first graders, will prepare them for the technologically advanced society we live in today. Some students, today, are beginning to learn how to code on technology devices before they learn to read or write. Students at our school who have been introduced to, and work with coding, have shown growth in problem-solving skills, cooperative learning skills, and increased thinking skills. Most of all, coding is fun!
