Students in Citizen Science class will use these materials to document highly active wildlife activity within our school's backyard. The Chicago River is located in our school's backyard and is home to many furry residents; red foxes, coyotes, herons, opossums, birds, etc. Students will learn sustainable practices and create solutions to protect native flora and fauna. Students will learn how to create their own paper and use a plant press to document the flora within our school's backyard. Students will be using these materials weekly and frequently and present their findings to the school. These materials will make a major difference in student's learning because they will learn how to analyze and synthesize raw data and construct sustainable solutions. Citizen Science class requires students to document the natural world. Camera traps help students accurately document daylight & nocturnal activity on school campus. Wooden deckles help students learn how to make their own paper, journals to document their findings, and learn sustainable ways to reause & recycle paper. The plant press will allow students to collect all native & invasive flora & preserve these plants in a collective identification book. Help our students explore the natural world!
