As kids get older, they lose the opportunity to play. They don't just start to lose out on the fun and the social benefits of play, but they also miss out on the cognitive benefits of play as well. Playing games allows students to think creatively and strategically in an engaging way that is not dependent on whether or not they consider themselves a "math person". Everyone is a math person because everyone can play! Games like Prime Climb and Dos engage students in mathematical thinking explicitly using mathematical operations. Classic games like Chess and Go engage mathematical thinking without the use of mathematical operations, but encourage mathematical thinking through reasoning and strategy. And, most importantly, all of the games are fun and social!
