My students have no idea what scientists and engineers do. Their day-to-day focus is on hunting and fishing in our local forest, many have never left the state, and when I ask them what they think scientists do, they tend to shrug. My job as their science teacher is to inspire them to care about science, help them develop collaborative and engineering thinking skills, and show them how their small town is connected to the global community.
