My students belong to low-income latino families residing in the state of New Jersey. The children are very respectful and eager to learn. An unfortunate disadvantage that our children face, as the first english speaking generation in their families, is achieving adequate language skills. This makes it very challenging for them in May, when they have to take the NJASK 3. The entire test is only administered in English. Therefore, our students are expected to read and comprehend what they are reading in English, in order to properly complete all parts of the test.
