During the first months of the pandemic, when in-person learning was postponed, I created some social-emotional videos using online animation software. I was easily able to distribute this video to parents of students for home learning opportunities as well as my colleagues for their use in their schools with their students. Both parents and colleagues were thrilled to have received these videos and share them! Now that we are back to in-person learning, I have the opportunity to elevate and enhance my ability to teach social-emotional skills to students who have been severely impacted by COVID-19 and its variants. Having a television screen to use will help me in areas including, but not limited to showing video content modeling proper breathing techniques; creating and sharing interactive social-emotional learning activities such as those found on JeopardyLabs; presenting PowerPoint slides to increase psychoeducation on important topics, or simply to use the television screen for positive reinforcement activities for students on behavior contracts. Having access to a large screen will help me better meet the needs of the students I see.
