Like most teachers, I am in the midst of preparing for a revolutionary school year due to COVID-19. Our district has taken a 100% virtual approach, and while I am so grateful that they chose not to risk our health with in-person classes, early childhood teachers have been left with very little to work with in terms of a virtual learning space. I don't even have an adult size chair or desk! Help me fix this by funding my learning environment, complete with essentials like a comfortable office chair and lumbar support, a large second monitor to use while teaching, and, my favorite, a rolling device cart so I can easily tote my little virtual learners around my real classroom. While some of these items may not seem like your typical Pre-K teacher's requests, they are going to help TREMENDOUSLY with ease of transitions, quality of material, day-to-day reliability, speed, and my own comfort. I have been in virtual trainings for over a month, and even without the stress of assessing children and managing a classroom, I am finding myself exhausted, frustrated, and sore at the end of a virtual workday. Further, I'm finding the financial burden of preparing for this school-year to be significantly higher than normal, as most materials I have purchased in the past are not particularly useful to my students if they can't use them in-class. Pre-K students rely on their senses to take in new information. While I can't provide them with the usual level of sensory-type discovery, learning, and play that I am used to using in my classroom, I CAN do my absolute best to record silly videos, create virtual assignments, try unique home projects, and engage students with high-quality electronic products. Please help provide me with the set-up to my very best!
