Breakout boxes will be an excellent means to increase student motivation and engagement. So many times I have heard from adults, "I took _ # of years of Spanish and don't remember anything." As a Spanish teacher, I strive to create lessons and activities that are intended to have the opposite effect. Instead of being limited to fill in the blanks and translating for the sake of translating, imagine a classroom where students are connected because they see purpose and relevance. This is what will happen when my students use BreakoutEDU boxes. Students will be actively engaged and communicating in the target language to solve mysteries and puzzles and yes! increasing proficiency! These will be used at 2 schools (Pioneer Ridge and Bingham Middle Schools) and for multiple tasks and concepts.
