Flexible seating is becoming more and more prominent in the classroom. Students enjoy moving, they are growing and want to have fun. Flexible seating options like stability balls and wobble chairs encourage that movement. These options allow students to choose a seat that is best for them to learn. They can explore options with different seats and decide which one helps them learn their very best. Flexible seating connects the body to the brain by letting students move while learning. Second graders love to move around and talk. Instead of only moving during transitions, stations, and even small activities, students can be moving while just sitting at their desks, listening to their teacher. My classroom was blessed with stability balls this year. They have been an incredibly helpful tool but I know that flexible seating can be taken to another level. I believe these other seating options will allow my students to discover how they learn best.
