Math manipulatives allow students that have visual and tactile learning to be successful. Some students need to be able to visually see the problem in order to remember things. Other students need that tactile input of using that physical movement to remember. Many students need both of these types of learning to be successful in their ability to master math. My students have noticeable progression with mathematical skills using the limited manipulatives we have in the classroom. Counting bears will help students compute and retain skills such as addition, subtraction, and patterns. The use of 3-dimensional shapes models will my students visually understand the differences between the two dimensions. Money manipulatives will help the students with their life skills allowing them to understand how money is represented and the use of money. Manipulatives allow students to explore ideas creating an energetic classroom environment and independent learning.
