I work in a Title 1 school. We have about 68% free and reduced lunch. My class is composed of 20 active and driven second grade students. There are 8 girls and 12 boys in the class. I have several ELL students that work hard in both reading and math. Since I teach a core class, differentiation is very important. I have students reading as high as a 3rd grade level and some that are still decoding. Our academic foci is mostly math and language arts. I have been introducing coding to the class as part of our fun Friday activities. It was an instant hit! Now, I use it as one of my incentive. My students also access the computer for our research and inquiry projects. We try to do as much online research when computer access is available.
