As I start my first year teaching math at Fels High School in Northeast Philly, I couldn't be more excited to meet my 90 new Algebra 1 students! While in person greetings will have to wait, I still want to provide a virtual classroom that is as close to a real classroom experience as possible. A whiteboard with dry erase markers will be one way I can display math concepts in a way the students are used to.
I don't believe I can provide the best quality education unless I can turn my bedroom into an organized office space, something I was not expecting to have to do this year. While I have a small desk for my laptop, it would be so helpful for me to have a small table with shelves to keep my school supplies and student work organized. This furniture will get a lot of use in my classroom as well once we can return safely!
I have already purchased a printer for ease of grading and any other materials I may want to hand write on, so some help with printer ink and paper would be a life saver! I am also asking for a laptop bag and academic planner so that I can keep my day-to-day materials and schedules organized for when we will be able to teach from a physical classroom.
Lastly, I have included stationery on my list so that I can send each and every one of my new students a note welcoming them to my class. During this crazy year, my first priority will be to make my students feel safe and welcome. Many of them are incoming 9th graders and new to high school, so I want to make this transition as easy for them as possible.
