Students in my class are expected to read 20 minutes each day. Daily sustained exposure to text builds strong, confident readers. Each student who reads 20 minutes a day will result in reading 1,800,000 words per year! In order to meet this goal, my students need to be interested in the books I have to offer. They benefit from reading a variety of texts from different genres and about a variety of topics. Currently, our classroom library is very slim & picked-over, leaving few options to a group of students with varying interests. We need a diverse classroom library that represents our personal interests and abilities, so we can find joy in reading and build confident readers.
