This project will put a variety of reading choices into the hands of my young and often reluctant readers. Literacy is a key mission of the school and community and it is my belief that fostering a love of reading starts with providing content they love to read about. These different book selections will help my students find parallels to their lives and help them to discover new ideas, characters, worlds to immerse themselves in. My students come from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, socioeconomic levels, family dynamics, hardships and life stories. As a result of the diversity seen within my classroom, I selected texts that spans a diverse range of interests so each student can find a piece of themselves represented in our class library. These books will help to foster a strong classroom community and build an awareness and acceptance of our different backgrounds we bring to the classroom. The flexible seating options will allow my students to see school with enthusiasm and comfort over obligation. The supplies will help my students become active readers and discover more depth to stories and characters. Your contribution large or small will benefit my incoming students but will offer answers, solace, escape and wonder to all my students in the future, too!
