We are requesting a grill, refrigerator, kettle, an iron and clothing steamer, a fryer, a digital camera and more for our Life Skills program. Life skills is a critical component of the education program for our students with special needs, primarily because, as adults, the community is where they will need to use the skills they acquire during their school years. The expectation is that our students will live, work, shop, and play in integrated environments in the community, and that they will participate, either independently or with accommodations and supports, in typical activities across a variety of settings. As part of our Life Skills Class, students will learn essential living skills so they can be independent when they enter the real world. Students with special needs will learn how to take care of themselves and live meaningful independent lives. They will learn how to create shopping lists and store perishable food in the refrigerator to plan their daily meals; they will learn how to cook simple meals using the air fryer, power grill and electric kettle; they will learn how to take care of themselves by ironing their clothes and vacuuming. Their lessons will be captured using the camera so as to share with parents for additional support at home. Let's make a difference by providing students with special needs the tools and skills they need to live meaningful lives.
