In our Chemistry class, my students and I use a wide variety of supplies. From the basic classroom supplies, like glue sticks, pencils, and scissors; to more specific items like chromatography paper and chemical testing plates, I'm always using a range of different materials to make our classroom as engaging as possible for the students. Using a variety of materials also helps the students to develop hands-on skills that they could use in a future career. For example, practicing measurement can prepare a student for a future career as an engineer. Having an adequate quantity and variety of supplies is critical to making our classroom as engaging as possible. However, as a Title 1 school, there is not always sufficient funding to cover all the materials that our students need. For example, though we have access to a classroom set of headphones due to a colleague's successfully-funded DonorsChoose project, we do not have access to enough laptops for each student to have their own. Therefore, I am requesting a set of headphone splitters, so that each student will be able to listen to the material we are working with at the same time. So far, my co-teacher and I have purchased a variety of lab supplies; however, we need additional support to be able to stock sufficient resources for all aspects of our classroom.
