Kids and teachers at our school work from 7 am to 4 pm every day. Much of what we do is focused on achieving excellence on standardized tests. In the first few years of our school, the kids earned stellar marks on the state tests. When the state raised the standards, our scores looked mediocre at best. This is an opportunity - a chance to reflect on the full needs and potential of our students. Our kids are so excited to learn about the world around them. They thirst for books and class trips and timelines and maps and songs and interviews - for social studies and science. We live in one of the most dynamic cities in the world - Brooklyn! Our neighborhood is particularly beautiful - architecturally and culturally diverse. The families in our school have a wide range of experiences in New York, the Caribbean and beyond. We are excited to help connect the school more to their experience and we hope a library dedicated to social studies will be a step in that process.
