I work at a high performing charter school in Newark, NJ committed to serving children by building an uncommon school where students partake of a rigorous, 11-month, extended-day academic program. This program aims to give students the means to overcome the achievement gap and beat the odds in school and in life. Our students—most of whom are low-income and come into our school at least a few years below grade level—stay in school longer than their district school peers, push themselves to the highest levels academically, and believe deeply in the core values that make our learning community safe and orderly.
